Capital
Project Update: Design Phase
October 2008
This capital
project will renovate and reconstruct key areas of our buildings in order to
improve the safety, efficiency, appearance, and usefulness of our school
facilities. We will renovate the kitchen, cafeteria, music classroom, and
administrative offices; restore the district's stage, which was decommissioned
in 1989; upgrade the district's heating and ventilation systems; replace windows
and doors; upgrade our fire alarm, public address, and master clock system;
restore exterior masonry; enhance building security and accessibility; and
improve our three parking lots. The project will also add 7,200 square feet of
instructional space to our building. This addition will house a new
library/media and computing center, new technology classroom, and an expanded
gymnasium.
Our planning for the upcoming Capital Project continues to move forward.
Here's a look at our progress this past month...
Our architectural team met with the Board of Education last month
to review the floor plans and exterior renderings.
Our Superintendent and Business Office Manager met with our
architects, fiscal advisor, and bond counsel to discuss our short-term cash
needs and establish a borrowing schedule.
The Board of Education has approved the issuance of a $950,000 bond
anticipation note to fund project expenses through June 2009.
Our architects will submit our entire set of construction plans to
the State Education Department for review by the end of October.
We anticipate a 16-week waiting period before officials actually
review our plans; during that time, our architectural team will continue to
fine- tune the plans.
Our architects will be presenting a preliminary "phasing" schedule
to the Superintendent on October 29. Following his review of the phasing
schedule, the district's Site Team will be convened to provide feedback on the
schedule.
A new construction manager has been assigned to our team by CSArch
Mr. Scott Wolfe, who has extensive experience overseeing K-12 school
construction projects, will replace Mr. Andrew Jablonsky.
Our Site Team will meet with the architects in early December to
review a first draft of the project phasing schedule.
Following SED approval of our plans, we will begin to
prepare our bid documents in anticipation of putting the project "out to bid" in
Spring 2009 and beginning construction in Summer 2009.
